Eight teams participate in the League of Legends (LoL) tournament at the 2026 Asian Games. Unlike standard LoL esports competitions, this event features national roster, not commercial organizations.

Even a quick look at the players here gives a clear understanding of the favorites. Some of the best competitors in the world represent South Korea. This team is a unique T1 reunion and an opportunity for top Korean representatives to play together. 

It’s also very interesting to watch mixed teams from a few other countries. These players have great experience in strong regions and at big international events.

2026 Asian Games LoL tournament: Format and key details

The League of Legends tournament at the 20th Asian Games runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. This period includes two stages: groups and playoffs. 

• Group Stage: Sept. 29–30. The eight participating teams are divided into two groups. They compete in a single round-robin format, where each team plays against everyone else once in best-of-one (Bo1) matches. The top two teams from each group advance to the playoffs.
• Knockout Stage: Oct. 1–2. The playoffs feature a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three (Bo3) matches and a best-of-five (Bo5) grand final. The tournament includes a third-place final.

Team South Korea: Heavy favorites, T1 reunion

Winners of big LoL esports international tournaments represent South Korea at the 2026 Asian Games.

T1 reunion

The event is absolutely special for T1 fans. Not only is the legendary Faker participating in the 2026 Asian Games, but he and Keria are also reuniting with two former members of T1.

• Zeus left T1 in November 2024. He competed alongside Faker for four years, winning two Worlds titles.
• Gumayusi was a trainee at T1, and then he played on the main roster for six years. Gumayusi won three World Championship titles before moving to HLE in November 2025.

Additionally, we get to see Canyon jungling for this extraordinary roster. Zeka may play as a substitute for Faker.

Dark horses and challengers: Other notable national teams

Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) and Vietnam have assembled very strong national teams, featuring players with impressive international achievements. 

The Hong Kong team has the potential to surprise the LoL community with a strong performance.
