Riot Games is opening up more paths for domestic APAC region teams in the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) next year.
The 2027 LoL esports season will see teams compete at home in Vietnam’s VCS, Japan’s LJL, and Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macao’s PCS.
Those domestic leagues’ best teams will then qualify for the LCP and compete for international tournament qualification, including Worlds.
Riot also confirmed that Wildcard teams will return and will have chances to qualify, adding some potential relief for Oceania fans.
What’s Changing in LCP 2027?
Since the introduction of the LCP, one issue teams faced was the mandatory relocation to Taipei.
Riot conceded that this was “costly” for teams and stated: “Being away from their home regions also limits opportunities for them to engage directly with their local fan bases and build stronger connections.”
As a result of the new domestic pathways, teams will no longer be required to move from their home countries.
However, it has been confirmed that the LCP Arena will remain open and functional next year.
In the league’s current structure, domestic teams only have one chance to qualify for the LCP through the Promotion Series – meaning only one or two teams from each league would get such an opportunity.

With the 2027 format, all domestic teams will be able to qualify for the LCP each split.
This gives more financial incentives to teams, as any teams that qualify for global tournaments will receive a share of Riot’s Global Revenue Pool (GRP).
The GRP is funded by sales of digital content tied to LoL Esports (skins, emotes, event bundles, etc.), ånd then redistributed to top esports teams.
How this will work for Wild Card regions remains to be seen, with Riot promising to share more about slot distribution and formats in the coming months.
