BC.Game suffer fourth qualifier exit in a month after overtime loss to FOKUS

BC.Game were knocked out of the first PGL Masters Bucharest Europe Open Qualifier on 4 September, losing 1-2 to FOKUS in a series that went to overtime on both of the deciding maps.

The result means BC.Game have now failed to qualify for four events inside a month, having also missed out on the Esports World Cup, Stake Pulse Beat II and IEM Beijing, according to Dust2.us. The org had reached the top eight of this particular open qualifier before running into FOKUS.

BC.Game took the opener on Dust2 with relative ease, racing to a 9-3 lead at the half and closing it out 13-4 despite FOKUS taking the second pistol. Mirage went the other way. FOKUS stormed to a 7-0 start on the CT side and held an 8-4 lead at the break, and although BC.Game clawed their way to a single series point, they could not convert it, letting the map slip to overtime, where FOKUS won 16-14.

Nuke, the decider, followed a similar pattern. FOKUS again raced ahead, turning a 4-0 start into a 9-3 half, before BC.Game fought back to force overtime for the second time in the series. BC.Game briefly led 18-16 in the first overtime period but again failed to close it out, and FOKUS won a flawless 3-0 T-side stretch in the second overtime to take the map 19-16 and the series 2-1.

Azbayar ‘Senzu’ Munkhbold was BC.Game’s standout performer with a 1.19 rating and 24 kills, while Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev posted a 1.09 rating. New signing Emil ‘Magisk’ Reif contributed a 1.06 rating and 26 kills on Dust2, though fellow recent addition Ayush ‘mzinho’ Batbold finished on 0.86. Both Magisk and mzinho had been brought in with hopes they would help the roster push through this stage of qualification more comfortably.

BC.Game will get another chance almost immediately. The second PGL Masters Bucharest Open Qualifier begins on 5 September, and the org confirmed via social media that they will take part.
