BC.Game bench electroNic in push for Asian core status and Major berth

BC.Game have benched Denis “electroNic” Sharipov after almost a year in the starting five, according to HLTV. The outlet reports the organisation is close to confirming Tyson “asap” Paterson of THUNDER dOWNUNDER as his replacement, a development Dust2.us also reports.

The move is understood to be about regional classification rather than performance alone. BC.Game currently sit 36th in Europe’s VRS rankings, outside the range needed for a direct invite to the PGL Major in Singapore. Bringing in an Australian player such as asap would let the roster register as an Asian core alongside the Mongolian pairing of Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold and Ayush “mzinho” Batbold, opening a different route to qualification. Dust2.us draws a parallel with Liquid’s signing of Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, which secured that side an Americas invite to IEM Cologne.

electroNic’s spell in the lineup peaked with a first-place finish at Elisa BreakOut Series #1. BC.Game then went seven consecutive qualifiers without advancing, before finally booking a spot at Stake Pulse Beat III last week. Over the past three months, the Russian posted a 0.99 average rating across 21 maps.

BC.Game CEO Ali Muhanned on the timing

Asked by HLTV about the decision, BC.Game CEO Ali Muhanned said the call was not a reflection of electroNic’s play.

“It has nothing to do with electroNic. If we had more time for the Major, I would have actually given him more time just because the team is new.”

For the 23-year-old asap, a switch to BC.Game would mark his first move outside an Australian organisation. If confirmed, the roster would line up as Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold, Emil “Magisk” Reif, Ayush “mzinho” Batbold and Tyson “asap” Paterson, with Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas continuing as coach.

Neither HLTV nor Dust2.us has reported an official confirmation from BC.Game beyond the benching announcement itself, with the asap signing still described as a reported move at this stage.
